Dimitris Martidis studied at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1986-1992) while he got also deeply interested in music and ethnomusicology. During his studies he was equally involved in painting, sculpture, assemblages and photography. This diversity led him to the invention of hybrid modes of operation and an expanded use of artistic media.

Subsequently, in his own studio-refuge he dealt with the precariousness and fluidity that define the relations of the modern subject with the sacred, the profane, the notion of place, the idea of the city and the question of the public space. Wandering and collecting practices characterize his work over time. They end up forming complex mythological narratives which de-polarize and a-temporalize the biotic and the abiotic, the human and the animal, the natural and the man-made.

From 1994 to 2012 he taught several visual arts courses enriching their content with performative events.
